CVE-2021-31946

Code execution via unchecked 3D file parsing

Published Jun 8, 2021 · Updated May 28, 2026

Remote code execution in Microsoft Paint 3D before 6.2105.4017.0 allows remote attackers to execute code via malicious GLB or STL files. The GLB and STL parsers fail to validate attacker-supplied structure lengths, causing out-of-bounds reads that enable code execution in the low-integrity process. Exploitation requires the target to visit a malicious page or open a crafted file; the resulting code runs with the current Paint 3D process integrity.
