Protected-file access via junction-link redirection
Published Sep 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper link resolution in McAfee Endpoint Security for Windows before 10.7.0 September 2021 Update allows local users to access protected files. Privileged McAfee folder operations follow attacker-controlled Windows junctions and redirect filesystem activity to unintended locations. Exploitation requires a local low-privilege session, control of a junction at the operation path, and a McAfee folder operation to follow it.
