Sensitive contact-data disclosure via Android system logging
Published Apr 28, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in GAEN through 2021-04-27 allows local users to read sensitive contact data via Android system logs. The Exposure Notification service writes Rolling Proximity Identifiers and associated Bluetooth MAC addresses to the shared logcat buffer instead of retaining them within the service. Exploitation requires a local preinstalled or system-level app with privileged log access, and the bounded consequence is disclosure of contact, social-graph, location-history, and sometimes infection-status data.
