Arbitrary file read and write via traversal
Published May 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Path traversal in Impacket smbserver.py through 0.9.22 allows remote attackers to list and write arbitrary files over SMB. The SMB1 and SMB2 request handlers normalize attacker-controlled filenames and join them to the share path without verifying that the resulting path stays inside the configured file jail. Any network client that can connect to a running server instance can escape the exported share and overwrite sensitive host files, enabling code execution when those files are later used.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
