Inadequate encryption in CyberArk Credential Provider before 12.1 allows attackers to recover passwords from version 2 credential files. Its proprietary AES key derivation incorporates a salt and environmental fields that are embedded in the file or realistically guessable, reducing the effective key space to as little as one. Exploitation requires access to a credential file and enough derivation context; the demonstrated consequence is disclosure of its stored plaintext password.
