Update traffic interception via disabled certificate validation
Published Dec 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper certificate validation in Pluck 4.7.15 update_applet.php allows man-in-the-middle attackers to alter update traffic. The applet sets cURL's CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER option to false, so the updater accepts a peer without authenticating its certificate. Exploitation requires a position between the Pluck server and its update host and is limited to disclosure or modification of update traffic.
