CVE-2021-31581Public exploit

Root shell escape via vi editor

Published Jul 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Shell escape in Akkadian Provisioning Manager Engine 4.50.18 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute commands via Edit MySQL Configuration. The command opens vi on the MySQL configuration file, and vi's :! execution feature breaks out of the restricted shell into unrestricted commands. The gate is an authenticated shell session; successful escape yields root-level command execution and can compromise confidentiality and integrity.
