CVE-2021-31539Public exploit

Administrator credential disclosure via cleartext password storage

Published Apr 23, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Cleartext credential storage in Wowza Streaming Engine before 4.8.8.01 allows local users to read administrator usernames and passwords. Default installations write administrative credentials directly to conf/admin.password without a one-way hash, leaving the file contents recoverable by regular accounts. An attacker needs a regular local account and file-read access; the exposure compromises stored administrative credentials without directly changing data or service availability.
