Station crash via unchecked TRF section offset
Published May 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Trend Micro Home Network Security 6.5.599 and earlier allows attackers to crash the station via a crafted TRF file. The tdts.ko TRF parser trusts a Section 0 field as an offset into Section 1 and reads beyond valid kernel memory, causing a page fault and kernel panic. Exploitation requires delivery and parsing of a malicious rule file; the demonstrated consequence is a station crash, not data access or modification.
