CVE-2021-31261

Memory disclosure via unreleased ES descriptor

Published Apr 19, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Memory-management flaw in GPAC MP4Box 1.0.1 allows context-dependent attackers to read process memory via a crafted file. The gf_hinter_track_new function releases an ES descriptor only within one conditional path, leaving descriptors allocated after other supported track branches. A crafted media file must be processed locally with MP4Box; the CVE reports memory disclosure, while the upstream issue characterizes the defect as a memory leak.
