Code execution via unchecked encryption IV size
Published Apr 19, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MP4Box in GPAC 1.0.1 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code or crash the process via a crafted file. The tenc_box_read function reads an 8-bit IV size from a tenc box and uses it as the byte count for gf_bs_read_data into key_info+21 without restricting it to 8 or 16. Exploitation requires MP4Box to process attacker-controlled media; successful corruption can terminate the process or execute code in its security context.
