SYSTEM privilege escalation via misconfigured mapped named pipes
Published May 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Privilege escalation in Microsoft Windows Container Manager Service on affected Windows releases allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges. The CmsRpcSrv::MapNamedPipeToContainer path opens mapped named pipes without correctly configuring STORVSP, exposing host-level access. Exploitation requires existing low-privilege local access and can execute operations with SYSTEM authority; no remote path is reported.
