Plaintext email recovery via automatic MIME loading
Published Aug 24, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in Mail on Apple iOS and iPadOS before 15.2 allows remote attackers to recover S/MIME email plaintext. Mail automatically loads some MIME parts while handling encrypted messages, exposing decrypted content beyond the S/MIME protection boundary. The gate is processing S/MIME-encrypted email containing attacker-controlled MIME parts; the reported consequence is plaintext recovery only.
