Local privilege escalation via CUPS permission validation
Published Oct 19, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
A permissions issue in CUPS in Apple macOS Big Sur before 11.6 and Catalina before Security Update 2021-005 allows local users to elevate privileges. Apple states only that CUPS failed to validate permissions correctly and has not disclosed the affected operation or attacker-controlled input. Local access with low privileges is required, and successful exploitation raises the local user’s privileges within the host.
