Code execution via out-of-bounds file parsing
Published Sep 8, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds file parsing in Apple macOS before 11.5 allows remote attackers to execute code or disclose data through crafted image files. CoreGraphics writes past an allocated structure while parsing crafted JPG data, while AppKit reads past an allocated structure when parsing crafted PDF data. Exploitation requires the victim to open the file; code runs in the current process, while the read flaw exposes process data and can support an exploit chain.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
