Pointer Authentication bypass via flawed state management

Published Sep 8, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Pointer Authentication bypass in Apple iOS and tvOS before 14.7 and watchOS before 7.6 allows attackers to subvert pointer checks. The Kernel's Pointer Authentication state-management logic mishandles internal state, but Apple has not published the specific erroneous transition. Exploitation requires prior arbitrary read-and-write capability and user interaction, and the published impact is limited to bypassing control-flow pointer integrity.
