Kernel code execution via AVEVideoEncoder memory corruption
Published Sep 8, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Memory corruption in AVEVideoEncoder in Apple iOS before 14.7 and macOS before 11.5 allows local users to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. The encoder’s state-management path mishandles memory, allowing a malicious application to trigger corruption and obtain kernel-level code execution. Exploitation requires running an application on the affected device; the resulting impact includes complete code execution in the kernel context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
