Protected file disclosure via backslash filter bypass
Published Apr 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in Apache Tapestry 5.4.0 through 5.6.3 and 5.7.0 through 5.7.1 allows remote attackers to download protected web files. The ContextAssetRequestHandler path filter screens forward-slash forms but fails to normalize backslashes before checking for WEB-INF and META-INF. No authentication or user interaction is required; crafted context-asset URLs expose files within those protected directories.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
