Stored XSS via weak metadata filtering
Published Apr 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in htmly 2.8.0 allows remote authenticated users to inject script through config.html.php blog metadata. The configuration handler applies insufficient filtering to the blog title, Tagline, and Description fields, allowing attacker-controlled markup to persist and execute when rendered. Exploitation requires an authenticated account able to submit configuration data and a victim to view the affected page; the demonstrated impact is client-side script execution with confidentiality and integrity consequences in that browser context.
