Code execution via hidden-node selection use-after-free
Published Oct 8, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use after free in Blink's Selection API in Google Chrome before 93.0.4577.82 allows remote attackers to execute code via crafted HTML. DOMSelection::setBaseAndExtent mishandles hidden nodes during cached visible-selection updates, allowing freed layout memory to be reused. A user must visit a malicious website; the demonstrated crash used a disabled sandbox, so a sandbox escape is not established.
