CVE-2021-3053Network attack vector

Firewall restart via exceptional-condition mishandling

Published Sep 8, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Improper exceptional-condition handling in Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS allows remote attackers to crash the dataplane with crafted traffic. The vendor identifies the dataplane as the locus but does not disclose which parser or exceptional condition mishandles the traffic. Exposure requires GTP security; repeated requests restart the firewall and place it in maintenance mode, interrupting all PAN-OS services.
