CVE-2021-30503Network attack vector

Remote code execution via workspace executable path

Published Apr 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Remote code execution in the unofficial GLSL Linting extension for Visual Studio Code before 1.4.0 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted workspace configuration. The extension treated the glslangValidatorPath setting as workspace-overridable and invoked the referenced executable, allowing a repository to redirect validation to attacker-controlled code when opened. Exploitation requires a victim to open the crafted workspace; execution occurs with the VS Code user's privileges and can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
