Authenticated privilege escalation via writable service executable
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Privilege escalation in ViewPower 1.04-21012 through 1.04-21353 allows local users to gain SYSTEM rights via the upsMonitor service. The installer grants Authenticated Users modify access to the service executable, so a replacement binary runs with elevated service privileges. Exploitation requires a local authenticated account and a service restart or system reboot, enabling arbitrary code execution as Administrator or SYSTEM.
