SYSTEM privilege escalation via repair-folder binary planting
Published Oct 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Check Point Harmony Browse and SandBlast Agent for Browsers before 90.08.7405 allows local users to gain SYSTEM. A user-triggered Windows Installer repair performs SYSTEM-context operations in the user's temporary directory, including execution of temporary files, so a crafted binary placed there runs as SYSTEM. Any authenticated local user can invoke repair through the Windows Installer API or msiexec, and the resulting code execution grants full host control.
