Service interruption via unchecked user export
Published Apr 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper access control in Friendica through 2021.01 allows remote attackers to exhaust server memory through the user-export route. The UserExport module invokes export logic without first rejecting a missing local user, so a null user identifier reaches database-backed export paths and consumes memory. Friendica disputes unauthenticated exploitability because a valid authentication cookie is required; the demonstrated consequence is a PHP fatal error and service interruption, not data export.
