Code execution via cleartext update retrieval
Published May 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cleartext update retrieval in Agenzia delle Entrate Desktop Telematico 1.0.0 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute code. The Eclipse p2 updater fetches metadata over HTTP, accepts a replacement binary archive without an independent hash check, and unzips it into the installation directory. An attacker must control the update traffic and wait for a user to open the application and let its automatic update finish; the injected binary then runs in the user's context.
