Memory corruption via stale accessibility selection listeners
Published Aug 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in Mozilla Firefox before 90, Firefox ESR before 78.12, and Thunderbird before 78.12 allows remote attackers to corrupt memory. DocAccessible::Shutdown leaves selection listeners attached as PresShell shuts down, so later refresh-observer removal dereferences freed PresShell state. Accessibility must be enabled and a user must load and interact with a malicious webpage; the demonstrated consequence is a tab crash.
