Message-integrity deception via mixed MIME rendering
Published Jun 24, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Incorrect security indication in Mozilla Thunderbird before 78.10.2 allows remote attackers to misrepresent unprotected email content. Thunderbird's MIME/OpenPGP rendering path recursively processes an inline signed or encrypted part while retaining unrelated MIME parts, yet marks the displayed message as protected. The recipient must open the crafted email; the false protection indicator can cause unprotected content to be trusted as signed or encrypted.
