Local privilege escalation via arbitrary window messages
Published Oct 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Hitachi JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Agent 9 through 12 allows local users to execute arbitrary code. A local pipe accepts attacker-controlled arguments and passes them to the Windows SendMessageTimeoutW API without adequate validation. Low-privileged access to the local system is required, and successful exploitation runs code with the agent's elevated privileges.
