Remote code execution via unsanitized template formatting
Published May 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Code injection in the WarnSystem cog for Red-DiscordBot before 1.3.18 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via crafted templates. The !warnset description template is passed to Python str.format with Discord member objects, allowing attribute traversal beyond intended fields. Any Discord user able to invoke the command can trigger the flaw; exploitation can expose sensitive information and achieve remote code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
