Code execution via unfiltered shell redirection
Published Apr 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
OS command injection in DEMON1A Discord-Recon 0.0.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to overwrite files via bot commands. Command handlers pass Discord-supplied tool arguments to a shell while the RCE blacklist fails to reject angle brackets, allowing output redirection to attacker-chosen paths. Access to invoke a bot tool or command is required; overwriting a startup or other executable file grants code execution under the bot account.
