Contributor-level content disclosure via Latest Posts rendering
Published Apr 15, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in the WordPress REST API before 5.7.1 allows remote authenticated users to read password-protected content. WP_REST_Posts_Controller disabled post password checks globally while rendering edit-context REST responses, letting a contributor-owned draft use the Latest Posts block to embed protected posts the contributor could not edit. Exploitation requires contributor privileges and discloses post content without granting modification or administrative access.
