Code execution via out-of-bounds RLE write
Published Sep 28, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in IrfanView 4.57 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code when a user opens a crafted RLE file. The Formats plugin's ReadRAS_W routine writes RLE-derived data beyond the intended buffer at offset 0x1001. Exploitation requires user interaction and runs code in the IrfanView process, permitting compromise of the user's data and session.
