Code execution via out-of-bounds RLE write
Published Sep 28, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Buffer overflow in IrfanView 4.57 allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code through a crafted Utah RLE file. The FORMATS plug-in's Read_Utah_RLE routine performs an out-of-bounds write while decoding attacker-controlled RLE data. A user must process the file in IrfanView, after which code runs with that user's privileges.
