Arbitrary code execution via out-of-bounds RLE write
Published Sep 28, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in IrfanView 4.57 allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code through a crafted RLE file. The FORMATS module's Read_Utah_RLE routine writes past its intended buffer at offset 0x37a while processing malformed RLE data. Exploitation requires a user to open the file, after which code executes with the user's privileges.
