CVE-2021-29203Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Root takeover via unauthenticated password reset

Published May 6, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Authentication bypass in HPE Edgeline Infrastructure Manager before 1.23 allows remote attackers to obtain root access. The specific_password_reset view accepts unauthenticated PATCH requests that change the Administrator password; version 1.22 instead trusts a spoofable Origin header. Network access to the management web interface is sufficient to create an Administrator session, reset the linked OS root password, and gain SSH access as root.
