Privilege escalation in the Linux kernel 5.11.12 and earlier allows local users to execute arbitrary code in kernel context through the BPF JIT. The x86 and x86-64 JIT compilers miscalculate branch displacements while translating crafted BPF instructions, producing anomalous machine code that hijacks kernel control flow. Exploitation requires local access and permission to load BPF programs; distributions that restrict the eBPF verifier to CAP_SYS_ADMIN further limit reachability.
