CVE-2021-28825

Local privilege escalation via writable installation paths

Published Apr 14, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Local privilege escalation in TIBCO Messaging Eclipse Mosquitto Distribution Core 1.3.0 and earlier allows local users to execute code. The Windows installer assigns insufficient access restrictions to certain installation files or folders, allowing low-privileged users to insert software that the privileged component later executes. Exploitation requires local Windows access and grants execution at the component's elevated privilege level, potentially providing full operating-system access.
