Denial of service via quadratic EPS line accumulation
Published Jun 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Denial of service in Pillow before 8.2.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt image processing via malicious EPS files. EPSImageFile readline handles mixed carriage-return and line-feed endings by repeatedly accumulating the line buffer, creating quadratic processing that consumes excessive resources during open. No authentication or user interaction is required when an attacker can submit an EPS file, and the bounded consequence is a hang or service interruption before image acceptance.
