Authenticated broker crash via malformed CONNACK
Published Apr 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in Eclipse Mosquitto 2.0.0 through 2.0.9 allows remote authenticated users to crash the broker via MQTT v5. The handle__connack path accepts a CONNACK packet from a normal client and processes MQTT v5 properties through a null bridge context. A valid authenticated CONNECT must precede the malformed CONNACK; triggering the flaw terminates the broker process and interrupts service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
