Memory corruption via premature slice-length update
Published Mar 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Memory corruption in the stack_dst crate before 0.6.1 allows attackers to corrupt memory when a cloned value panics. push_inner records the full slice length before push_cloned finishes cloning its elements, so panic unwinding drops an already-dropped element or an uninitialized slot. Exploitation requires a Clone implementation that panics during push_cloned; the resulting invalid destructor call corrupts process memory.
