Remote settings control via pairing PIN brute force
Published Aug 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Brute-force pairing in Vizio P65-F1 6.0.31.4-2 and E50x-E1 10.0.31.4-2 Smart TVs allows remote attackers to control TV settings. The pairing/start and pairing/pair endpoints accept repeated four-digit PIN attempts; restarting pairing bypasses the failure limit. Network access to the TV is sufficient, and successful pairing returns an API key that controls the remote, launches content, and modifies settings.
