Privileged command execution via writable wsrep variables
Published Mar 19, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Code injection in affected MariaDB, Percona Server, and wsrep patch releases allows remote authenticated users to execute OS commands. The writable wsrep_provider variable loads a user-selected shared library, while wsrep_notify_cmd sends a user-selected command through an untrusted search path that reaches evaluation. Exploitation requires database SUPER privilege and runs code under the database server process account, enabling host compromise within that account's permissions.
