Code execution via nonce-free command replay
Published May 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Authentication bypass in Emote Remote Mouse 4.0.0.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via UDP packet replay. The server prepends a static MD5-derived password value to cleartext command packets but uses no cryptographic nonce, so captured keystroke packets remain valid when resent to UDP port 1978. An attacker must first observe a legitimate password-protected session; replayed keystrokes can then launch commands without knowing the password or requiring user interaction.
