Code execution via unsanitized iframe attributes
Published Jun 18, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Zettlr 1.8.7 allows remote attackers to execute code by inducing a user to open a crafted Markdown file. The Markdown preview renders attacker-supplied iframe elements and event-handler or srcdoc attributes as active content with Electron's Node integration available. Exploitation requires the user to open the file while iframe rendering is enabled, after which injected JavaScript can invoke local operating-system commands.
