Stored XSS via unfiltered file metadata

Published Jul 23, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Stored XSS in Omeka Classic before 2.8 allows remote authenticated users to inject script through file metadata fields. The admin/files/edit form saves posted Elements metadata without passing it through Omeka's HTML purifier when HTML is enabled. Contributor, administrator, or superuser access is required to store the payload, which executes in another user's browser when a page containing the file is viewed.
