Application crash via unchecked raw pointer dereference
Published Jan 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Memory-safety flaw in the av-data crate before 0.3.0 allows attackers to crash a consuming application via an invalid raw pointer. The safe Frame::copy_from_raw_parts function accepts unchecked raw pointers and dereferences them, so a null or invalid address triggers undefined behavior and can cause a segmentation fault. Reachability requires consuming code to pass attacker-influenced pointers into this API; the documented consequence is an application crash, not data modification.
