Kernel code execution via legacy HDCP interface
Published Nov 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper input validation in Samsung Mobile Devices before SMR Nov-2021 Release 1 allows local users to execute kernel code. The legacy HDCP kernel interface exposed at /dev/hdcp2 accepts improperly validated input and permits arbitrary read, write, and code execution. Access requires high local privileges on select Android 8.1 through 11 devices with Exynos chipsets, and compromise crosses into the kernel.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
