Privileged action via PhotoTable intent redirection

Published Jun 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Intent redirection in Samsung Mobile Devices PhotoTable on Android 8.1 through 11.0 allows local users to execute privileged actions via crafted intents. PhotoTable forwards an attacker-controlled intent through PermissionsRequestActivity, granting access to content providers such as shared storage. Exploitation requires a malicious application installed on the device; the demonstrated impact is unauthorized content-provider access rather than remote execution.
