Local interception via missing provider signature check
Published Mar 4, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Provider hijacking in Samsung Email before SMR Feb-2021 Release 1 allows local users to intercept provider execution. Samsung Email executes a provider without first performing the proper signature check, allowing an attacker-controlled provider to be substituted. Exploitation requires local low-privilege access on an affected Android 9, 10, or 11 device; Samsung identifies no narrower intercepted data or operation.
